The presentations made by the SPC2608 class groups on March 11 were very interesting and instructive for all the people who had the pleasure of attending the event. In particular, my group gave a presentation on the SNAP program. This is a program that helps American families be able to purchase a nutritious diet in one month. As a student in a public speaking class, the symposium was a great opportunity for me. I was able to give a speech in front of many people, and I was able to give a clean delivery and inform all the people who were present. This experience will serve me for the rest of my professional life and is linked to the profession that I want to practice in the future. I want to be a lawyer, and these types of presentations will help me prepare to present important future cases in court.

The groups discussed several interesting topics during the symposium. One of the topics that really caught my attention was about health care today. It was very motivating to know how France has one of the best health care in the world. The health system in France is one of the most accessible healthcare in the world. They also have a system that is quite affordable for their legal residents. Compared to the United States, healthcare in France has many things going for it. I consider that the presentation made by this group was very useful because we could understand how the health system works in other countries compared to ours.

Another group that addressed a rather interesting topic was the group that considered food insecurity in the United States. This is a subject that not many people like to talk about, but it is a reality that people face today. Statistics state that in 2017, around 40 million people had problems related to hunger. Furthermore, around 15% of families living in rural areas face food insecurity. It is important that this information reaches as many people as possible because that way they can contribute anything. Even something that you may think is insignificant can help food-insecure families. One of the best ways we can help these people is by donating canned food for the food campaigns.

Food Insecurity

In general, I consider that every group did a wonderful job in the lecture. As a member of the class and and spectator of this great symposium, I learned quite useful information that will help in my professional life. By presenting about the SNAP program, I learned a lot about what this really consists of, how people can apply for this program, and what people can qualify for it. Also, I realized that are many people that need this help and don't apply because of stigmas imposed by the society. I learned that many college students need food stamps and are not able to receive because low state fundings. In conclusion, this presentation helped me learn a lot of information about things I didn't know, and it also helped me develop and give an informative speech in front of a large group of people. It was a fantastic experience that I really liked about this class.
